The complete picture of what media is not telling you about Kashmir
The largest and the most diverse democracy of the world is said to be established on four pillars that binds the constitution together. The legislature, the executive, the judiciary and the press. The work of first three is closely related, while the press plays the watchdog. The watchdog builds a direct link with the general public and gains its power through credibility. Over the years, as the system of democracy has failed to curb the problems like corruption, casteism, illiteracy, unemployment, communalism, regionalism, population control etc. The press of the country has become equally complacent as our political establishments. The nexus of the political leaders and journalists have introduced us to Luteyens Journalism. An era where journalism is not free, fair and unbiased.
Media that is supposed to be the main source of information to the people has been heavily biased in promulgating the stories of Kashmir by distorting the picture and not being completely honest in it's reporting. The developments of Kashmir issues have revolved mainly around the cases of stones and pellet guns. The media outlets have banked hugely on the emotional frenzy. Shifting our focus away from the shoddy journalism of media houses we take a look into the complete picture of what media is not telling you about Kashmir.
When you take into consideration the atrocities in Kashmir and how meticulously left Kashmiri Pandits out of it. Deracinating the roots of sacred Kashmir that leaves it's mystical impressions on the people till date. The insurgents with the blots of the bloodshed in the valley have made sure that it fades away in time but it is not easy to put off conscientious men at work. A reminder that Kashmir existed before Islam.A four part series of beautiful culture Kashmir held together before it fell victim to face of Jihadi terrorism. Gone out of the picture because the ruins of ancient Hindu temple in Kashmir do not attract viewers any more.
There has been prolific attempts to establish a connection similar to Gaza conflict by the separatists to mobilize the crowds into large numbers by inducing the sentiments of collective pain shared by the Islamic community due to the non-Muslims. This propaganda has altered the emotions into actions. Hizbul Mujaheddin amongst other terror organisations in the valley has openly declared a religious war in name of Jihad. Media outlets have conveniently served the half truth to the people of the country. This half truth is being played out stronger by the day with media and organisations like Amnesty International India that organized a debate in which they invited the family members of people who had lost their people in the Kashmir unrest. The organizers purportedly forgot to invite other part of Kashmiri Pandits in their discussion facilitating a one sided discussion on Kashmir leading to humiliation for the organization for setting out a narrow view point in the affairs of Kashmir insurgency. Gita Sahgal, human rights activist who chaired the position of gender unit to stop violence against women left Amnesty International India intermittently after discovering the links of the organization with likes of Moazzam Begg, who refused to condemn the stoning of women in one of his talks.
The narrative played out in media is that there is a missing link between Kashmir and the rest of the India. More than showing the real image of Kashmir, media is breeding alienation in people by flaring the emotions of people which roots from the brainwashing and dangerous modus operandi of Pakistan.
Government In?Action
The government has been playing safe. Mehbooba Mufti invoked Vajpaye in her recent remarks calling for a dialogue to create the peace process with the citizens of Kashmir. A diplomatic stance in handling the situation in Kashmir which has made the situation more tense. Mehbooba Mufti called out to the youth and asked them to not pick arms. At the same time she's been reported to act as apologist for the terrorists in the valley. When the forces acting upon her chair is pulling her from all four sides the best bet would be to sit tight. This is what the Mehbooba Mufti government has been doing by balancing between two sides of her political roles.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi wishes to replace the stones in the hand of youth with gadgets but no amount of learning can seem to abolish the moral obligation of kashmiri Muslims to fight against the state. After a month of curfew the parliament unanimously declared peace and solidarity for Kashmir. The ailing Kashmir desperately needs a healing touch before the remedy and political parties seem reluctant in reaching out in a state too vulnerable with ideological warfare.
Separatists' Pitch
No Employment, package, development, can weaken our demand for Azaadi - Geelani
Separatists have made it clear what they want. The state is weary. Cross border terrorism has ensured that the valley gets a fair amount of anarchy for the separatist leaders to position themselves as the saviours of the youth. Separatists have not held back in spewing venom against the nation and incited the crowd in keeping the fight alive by announcing Tamga-i-Azeemat [medal of greatness] for Burhan Wani for openly advocating the use of arms in fight against the nation. Yasin Malik, another separatist leader said that 95% of the Kashmiri youth wants freedom from India. Wiping out the Kashmiri Hindus was indeed helpful in scoring great statistics for Azaadi. Fanning the fire with all the means available, separatists have enjoyed the luxury of extracting the resources of authorities from India and Pakistan. The self interests of separatists have never allowed them to send their own kids on the ground to fight but they have been vehemently involved in celebrating the violence to gain a stronger position as stakeholders of Kashmir.
People in the Valley
The unemployed youth, the foot soldiers, little kids are in a disarray. They have been waged into a war they don't understand. Kids are brainwashed with dangerous ideologies even before they have a basic understanding of judgement and reasoning. Kids are pushed into the war as cannon fodder and the risk is conceived to gain a moral edge in the war of Azaadi. Children from the beginning are made aware of their active role as Mujahideens to fight Kafirs. Madrasas create a chain of commands for the kids to grow up with a strong mental affliction. The formal weapon training takes place in Pakistan where they are equipped with heavy artillery. The whole process is laid down to the people. The stone pelting is rewarded with cash.
Illusions of Azaadi
Police officers from Jammu and Kashmir have quit the security forces, fearing for the their lives and that of their family members. Threats of being burned alive in sleep at midnight horrified the young officers who decided to opt for a future in defence forces and not joining the terrorists in their struggle to Azaadi.
Girls warned of riding Scooteys. New fatwas taking over the valley the curbed the rights of girls misusing the amount of freedom being granted to them by the clerics in Kashmir. Pragaash, all girls band from Kashmir received similar threats of death, rape and physical harm which got the band to quit pursuance of music.
Attack on KP transit camps- APMCC held peaceful protest against the attacks on KP transit camps in Kashmir after the death of Burhan Wani but neither did it get any political representation nor the media reporting. All subdued in the noise of stones and crying of Azaadi.
A movement boasting of Azaadi has imprisoned its own people into a web of hatred. Champions of Azaadi may say they are not associated with Pakistan but every procedure they have adopted is steering them on the side of Pakistan with the similar ideological bankruptcy it holds dear. We already have a Pakistan as a failed state sponsoring terrorism, two Pakistans won't make much difference to the world other than having the expanded ground area for terrorists to breed on, there's nothing exponential that could be attained through liberation from a nation that has been severed with the mere reflections of Azaadi that has resulted in radicalisation. No government, army, separatists, political party, sheikhs, khalifas can give people Azaadi other than the Kashmiri Muslims stop working as pawns from the hands of the masters who are enthusiatically putting the young Kashmiri kids on the street with stones. The war of Azaadi is laden on the shoulders of innocent children who don't have the understanding of what they are fighting for. The visual is extremely disturbing. Media has stuck to the visuals and garnered a sense of emotion but they have not questioned the masters who have pumped hate ideologies as obligations on the children and burdened them with a life of curfew.
The contention of divide between Kashmir and the rest of India comes from the fact that psuedo-intellectuals have been effectively spreading the half baked truth. The image of oppression that is self imposed by the Kashmiri youth who have gone on a self destruct mode. The image of Kashmir has been sequestered in the pellets and stones. Kashmir was Azaad when the ethnic bloodshed of innocent Kashmiri Pandits took place and they were driven out of the valley with sheer force. The beliefs of Kashmiri Muslims are not compatible with democracy. There are no two ways about it. We just don't have enough people in the public domain speaking out against the problems of Kashmir. Kashmir is suicidal and the illusion of Azaadi from India is not going to help Kashmiri youth, education will.
