The great education system

Last minute studying, meeting deadlines, submitting projects, presenting PowerPoint presentations and answering questions in Viva-voce. We think we are undergoing a process of learning which is helping us to grow as individuals. Clueless, we don't give a second thought to the fact if we are ever going to imply these applications in daily life or somewhere down the line. Subserviently, we bow down to educational concepts which have been passed down from generations to generations and change ourselves to fit in this structured system of rules and beliefs which distinguishes students on the number of marks they score.

The aim of education should be character development not just assurance a stable job that provides a cabin, desk , chair and a pay cheque. The mindset is such that teachers and parents push the student to work around the clock to get the results they desire. How consciously we kill the dreams of children who dream to work for the future and those dreams come to a silent end in classrooms. Instead of recognizing every child's potential we are just creating an army of bots who are going to take orders from the leaders that crop up and rest are expected to follow like dolts. The kid that wants to go out, play in rain, feel the joy, is shoved under the shade of umbrella and debarred from an experiences he wants to revel.

Governments should stop wasting money on human resource development when it can't cater to the needs of children or offering open space to each and every child to prosper on its own roots. The death of a young, cheerful mind is a bigger loss to world than any business deal out there. Everything that exists today was once imagined and today if we don't encourage students to dream and imagine a world which they believe can lead to better growth, we are perpetuating a false image of a skilled society in front of us that values grades more than actual abilities. Building schools, universities and colleges won't make much of a difference if the society is reluctant to invest in human resource development in its truest sense. The system of education has to evolve with time and if we don't look at the bigger picture of what we are being served with then it's time we realise that.

What does schools really teach children:
1) Truth comes from the authority:
2) Intelligence is the ability to remember and repeat
3) Accurate memory and repetition are rewarded
4) Non-compliance is punished.
5) Conform: Intellectually and socially

Schools and colleges, whether they intend to or not, are more about forcing kids into accepted modes of behavior and thinking, which obviously doesn't not work very well with the rebels, misfits, subcultures. The education is not received, it is achieved. Our thoughts and decisions are going to shape the circumstances we are going to face. If we don't come up with a good, free, open, education system we should forget that we will ever become a developed nation or a country that can guide the rest of the world on its footsteps.
